Australian Military Bank celebrates 20 years of support for ADF Aussie Rules
For the last twenty years Australian Military Bank has been the proud sponsor of the Australian Defence Force Australian Rules (ADFAR) National Carnival. Created in 1986 to encourage and promote the sport of Aussie Rules amongst ADF members, the carnival has grown to become one of the foremost ADF sporting competitions of the year, with participation seen as the pinnacle of ADF Aussie Rules.
The best of ADF talent come together annually from all over the country for the carnival, which sees the three military services battle it out in both the Men's and Women's championships for the honor of being crowned ADFAR Champions. The Jim Smail cup, named in honour of Navy legend (and Australian Military Bank member) Lieutenant Commander (Ret’d) Jim Smail, is awarded to the Men's champions at the end of the competition, whilst the women’s teams play for the Geoff Ledger trophy, named after CDRE (Ret’d) Geoff Ledger, another ADF veteran we are proud to call an Australian Military Bank member.
Wrapping up the carnival is one of Aussie Rules’ much-loved traditions, the ADF All-Stars team, made up of the very best players from Army, Navy and Air Force going head-to-head with the Australian Combined Emergency Services team for the Anzac Cup Challenge at the Adelaide Oval.
At Australian Military Bank we're incredibly proud to support such an important event in the ADF sporting calendar, and are thrilled to be celebrating a landmark twenty-year partnership with the ADFAR National Carnival in 2025.
